Wishing You a Safe and Happy New Year – Important Advice from Your Local Police |
||
|
Dear Residents, As we welcome 2026, your local police team would like to wish you and your loved ones a safe, happy, and healthy New Year. This is a time for celebration, but it’s also important to stay vigilant and look out for one another. Here are some key safety tips: Personal Safety When out celebrating, stick with friends and plan your route home in advance. Avoid walking alone late at night in poorly lit areas. If you feel unsafe, head to a busy public place or call for help immediately.
Road Safety Never drink and drive. Arrange a designated driver, use public transport, or book a licensed taxi. Watch out for icy roads and drive carefully in winter conditions.
Home Security Lock all doors and windows when leaving home, even for short periods. If you’re away, use timers for lights and ask a trusted neighbour to keep an eye out. Keep valuables out of sight from windows.
Online Safety Be alert for New Year scams and phishing emails. Never share personal or banking details unless you’re certain of the source. Use strong passwords and enable two-factor authentication where possible.
Firework Safety Only buy fireworks from licensed sellers and follow the instructions carefully. Keep fireworks away from children and pets. Never return to a lit firework and always light them at arm’s length using a taper. Have a bucket of water or sand nearby in case of emergencies. Be considerate of neighbours, especially those with pets or vulnerable individuals.
Look Out for Each Other If you see something suspicious, report it to us. In an emergency, dial 999. For non-emergencies, call 101 or Visit: https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/
Thank you for working with us to keep our community safe. Wishing you all a joyful, peaceful, and secure New Year!
